A small introduction about us

We VELU PUMP HOUSE are a long established family company engaged as artesian well borers and sinkers in the supply of services in connection with potable water supplies from water supply bore wells and water wells.
We are based in central Bangalore, and carry out works in and around south India.
The main areas of work we cover can be found below, however this list is not exhaustive.

Yield testing of Bore wells:
The yield test procedure that we follow is the step draw down or tracer & recuperation method to determine:
1) Bore well characteristics such as yield , specific capacity ,effective draw down, etc.
2) To select the right pumping machinery for effective and efficient performance.
3) To manage ground water for optimum usage.

The brief procedure of various tests is as below:

Step Draw down test or tracer test:

During this test the pump rate is increased in steps at regular intervals. For example a bore well may be pumped at rate of 1000l/hr for a period of 1 hour and increased there after to a rate of say 2000l/hr for the next hour and so on for several
more steps.

Recuperation test: In this test, recovering water levels are measured in the
pumping bore well immediately after the step draw down test, when the pump
is switched off. This recovery test is very useful in qualitatively assessing the pumping effect and possible dewatering of aquifers that may result due to the limited extent of an aquifer.

Hydro fracturing of bore wells:

Hydro fracturing is a well development process that involves injecting water under high pressure into a bedrock formation via the well. This is intended to increase the size and extent of existing bedrock fractures, pumping water into those fractures at pressures as high as 3000 psi and flow rates as high as 85 gallons per minute, this cleans out the fractures and allows them to interconnect with nearby water bearing fractures. Water can then flow back thru these fractures and into the well at a faster rate than before.

The procedure involves the installation of an inflatable packer which is placed in the well bore at least 40 feet below the well casing and drive shoe seal and at least 60 feet below ground surface to insure that the process does not “break” the seal or allow surface water contaminants to enter the well. The packer is inflated or locked into position and water is pumped through the packer under pressure..
If successful, pressure will steadily rise to a maximum level as the rock formation resists flow then will suddenly drop off and stabilize at a lower pressure. The drop in pressure indicates that the formation is accepting water and the resistance to flow is diminished. Water is pumped into the formation for 5 to 30 minutes
When utilizing one packer, it is set near the top of the well but at a minimum safe distance below the drive shoe. After the initial pressurization or “hydro frac” sequence, the packer is deflated and lowered further into the hole and the process repeated. Commonly two hydro frac sequences are per formed.


Bore well CCTV scan:

This procedure of cctv scan is adopted to scan the faulty bore well to identify the problems and offer a possible solution of rejuvenation.


Managing silty bore wells:

The possible cause of silt within the bore wells are to be determined before offering any solution.

Once the cause is identified a shoe is fabricated to arrest the silt at a particular location by partial sleeving or the bore well or complete sleeving of the bore well.

Rain water harvesting:

Rain water harvesting and ground water recharge by recharge shaft with a injection well.


This is the process involved in recharging ground water.
A filtration well of dia 1 m by 3.5 m deep is dug below the ground. The selection of the
well will be close to or adjoining to a bore well or dug at the lowest gradient point.
Within the well a bore hole of 150 mm or 200 mm dia is drilled up to the rocky strata by
means of a mud rotary rig. Within this bore hole a PVC pipe of 150 mm OD or more --5
mm thick is placed up to the bottom. The pipe will have 2 mm horizontal slots slotted at
intervals so as to have the maximum surface area for the water to be released.
Around the annular space i.e. between the bore hole and the PVC pipe --river bed
pebbles are packed. This will form an inverted filter.
This method is highly efficient as the rate of recharge is faster.
The well now will be filled at every 1 m with pebbles, charcoal, coarse sand to filter the
water entering the recharge shaft.
The pipe at the top will be closed temporarily and a RCC cover with handle is placed on
the top of the well which now has PCC rings placed inside. Provision with PVC/HDPE
fittings are made to receive the water from Roof top and Spill over water.
This system is ideally suited for deep water levels more than 15 m below the ground
level.
This process is selected on the basis that:
It does not require acquisition of large piece of land as in case of percolation tanks.
There are practically no losses of water in the form of soil moisture and evaporation.
Technology and design of the recharge shaft is simple and can be applied even where
base flow is available for a limited period.
The recharge is fast and immediately delivers the benefit. In highly permeable
formations, the recharge shafts are comparable to percolation tanks.
Enhance the dependable yield of wells.
Negligible losses as compared to losses in surface storages
Reduction in cost of energy for lifting water especially where rise in ground water level is
substantial Utilizes the surplus surface runoff which otherwise drains off
EACH SHAFT WILL BE SUITABLE TO TAKE THE RUN OFF FROM AN
AREA OF 25000 SQUARE FEET.
